    Background on the Event

Since 1999 Fireworks Australia has run demonstrations to showcase the latest and greatest fireworks for their clients. The early showcase events attracted large public crowds along with fireworks professionals from around the country. A fantastic family friendly event including rides, food stalls and of course FIREWORKS! Sure to be a great night out for young and old.

2025 will feature two synchronised musical fireworks displays, a new daytime smoke demonstration, performance of "Beating the Retreat" by the Tuggeranong Valley Band complete with live cannon simulations! as well as the ever-popular fireworks demonstration!

Gates to open from 3:00pm, our tip is to get in early to secure the best vantage point. We will aim to set up an area for all club members to sit together.

German Auto Day 2026 is shaping up to be an incredible event, and we'd love your help to make it a success!

We're seeking volunteers to help with a variety of activities on the day, including setting up club display and judging the club Show and Shine.

No judging experience? No problem. If you have a keen eye for detail, we'll provide all the guidance and support you need before judging begins. Show and Shine entrants are also encouraged to volunteer as judges and will simply be assigned to a category other than the one in which their vehicle is entered.

You won't be on your own, we will be available throughout the day to provide assistance and answer any questions.

Further details will be provided to volunteers closer to the event.

Join motorsport enthusiasts from around the country in Goulburn, NSW, as we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the first Australian Grand Prix for all powers racing cars – a landmark event in Australian motorsport history. From 15–18 January 2027, this iconic celebration will honour the 1927 original race with thrilling historic car demonstrations, modern motorsport showcases, exhibitions, family entertainment, and community events.

We plan to attend on Saturday, 16 January 2027. We will be travelling to Goulburn as a group, with meeting location and departure details to be provided to registered participants closer to the event.

See the below program for the Saturday

    • 9:00am — Gates open.
    • 1:00pm — Cars, Historic Motorcycles and draft horses on track.
    • Replica 1927 Grand Prix cars — 6 laps.
    • Period Motorcycles — 5 laps.
    • 1:30pm — Flyover.
    • AGP Winning Cars — 3 laps.
    • Special Interest Cars — 3 laps.
    • 4:00pm — Gates close.

The birthplace of Australian Grand Prix racing

Goulburn, NSW holds a proud but often overlooked place in Australian motorsport history.

On 15 January 1927, the town hosted what was officially promoted and reported as the Australian Grand Prix for All Powers Racing Cars – the country’s first national-level racing event open to all engine types and sizes.

The race took place on a 1.6-kilometre circuit in the grounds of the Goulburn Showground. It attracted competitors and spectators from across the country and was sanctioned by the Royal Automobile Club of NSW. The event was a genuine national championship, not merely a local club meeting.

    Why this story matters

The 1927 event has been largely forgotten in mainstream motorsport history, overshadowed by the 1928 Phillip Island race which is often cited as the first Australian Grand Prix. But contemporary newspaper coverage from 1927 is clear: Goulburn’s event was nationally promoted and reported as the Australian Grand Prix.

Restoring this history matters – for Goulburn, for motorsport heritage, and for an accurate understanding of when and where Australian grand prix racing began.

    Centenary highlights

    • 100th anniversary celebrations: Goulburn, 15–18 January 2027
    • Exhibition of period racing photographs and artefacts
    • Stories of the drivers, the race and the era
    • Community events celebrating Goulburn’s place in Australian motorsport history

More Information can be found here - https://goulburngrandprix.com.au/

Whether you're a racing fan, history buff or looking for a unique regional experience, Goulburn will roar to life with heritage, horsepower and hospitality.
