Nationals Event Program

We have hand picked the best of Canberra and designed a program with everybody in mind. Whether you want to go on a spirited drive, test your skills in a motorkhana or self drive at your own pace there is something here for you.  Our Gala dinner at the National Museum of Australia will be a night to remember and we look forward to welcoming you and your family to Canberra.

Day 1 - Friday 11 March 2022


Registration Session - Friday
Register for the BMW Nationals 2022 from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm at Canberra BMW. At registration you will be given a goodie bag containing a program, merchandise and a Raffle ticket for your chance to experience a once in a lifetime ride in an Ampihcar on Lake Burley Griffin.

Welcome and Nationals 2022 Overview
The welcome and overview of the Nationals 2022 starts at 7.00 pm at Canberra BMW. Presented by Patrick Van Den Bogaart (Dealer Principal of Canberra BMW) and the President of BMW Club Canberra.

A light meal, beer, wine and soft drinks will be provided.

Canberra Balloon Spectacular 
Canberra Balloon Spectacular is an annual event where locals and tourists gather at various vantage points throughout the city to watch the spectacular view of more than thirty balloons that decorate the sky. This is one of the leading balloon events in the world due to Canberra’s favourable flying conditions. It is highly weather dependant so we have sessions on two mornings in case the balloons can’t launch on the first day.

For those that could not make the registration session on Friday, Register for the BMW Nationals 2022 from 7.00 am to 10.00 am at the Mercure Hotel in Braddon. Early Morning Drive
Meeting at the National Museum car park, we’ll make an early escape from Canberra with a quick scenic drive, lead by our members, to the picturesque Cotter Reserve, the remote Uriarra Village and then we’ll return to Canberra via the historical town of Yass.

Self Drive tours of Canberra or other Activities

Concourse and Show and Shine
Held at the new Kambri precinct at ANU, the finest BMW’s from around the country will gather in the spectacular Autumn sunshine. Vote for your favourite Beemer and chat to the owners, or visit the many book shops, bars and cafes in the precinct and marvel at the facilities at one of the leading universities in the world.

Afternoon Drive
Start this guided drive at Canberra's Telstra Tower, then take a country drive out to the famous Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and visit the Mount Stromlo Observatory on the way back. See the impact of the 2003 bushfires on the telescopes and hear about how the observatory is currently contributing to the science of space.

National Museum Archives Collection
We have organised a rare private viewing of the National Museum Archives Automotive Collection, which will be curated by a National Museum employee just for BMW Club members. See the cars that have shaped Australia’s history, while they sit safely stored in this purpose built facility.

Early Morning Drive
Meeting at Mt Stromlo Observatory nice and early, we will take the stunning scenic drive out to the remote mining town of Wee Jasper then return via Yass to Canberra. With spectacular twists and turns, this is a memorable drive with great views and will challenge drivers at times.

Ampihcar Tour Raffle Winner Announcement
Your Registration to the BMW Nationals includes a $5 Raffle ticket to win a money-can’t-buy prize of a lifetime. We’ve cut through the red tape to enable the winner to experience a ride in the Ampihcar as it travels across Lake Burley Griffin to the National Museum of Australia. Arrive in style at our Gala Dinner and leave with a story your friends and family will find hard to believe. Includes a framed drone photo of you on the water and video footage taken by a drone pilot. Money raised from the Raffle goes to a deserving local charity, Marymead.

This is a driver’s event not to be missed. Join us at the Sutton Road Driver Training Centre for a variety of activities designed to test your driving skills, including a skip pan session, driver training, fun motorkhana activities, a dyno session and a chance to take your X car on the 4WD track on site to test out your off road skills.

Drivers heading south east can say good bye to Canberra in the best way possible – a spirited drive south through the Snowy mountain towns of Cooma, Adaminaby, and Tumut before heading out to the Hume Highway to make your way home.
